Special Air Quality Statement issued for area

Environment Canada has issued a Special Air Quality Statement for Fort Saskatchewan and the surrounding region.

The wildfires in British Columbia and the Northwest Territories are bringing local smoke to the area, which has led to air quality being considered high risk.

Environment Canada suggests reducing or rescheduling outdoor activities if you experience symptoms such as coughing or throat irritation.

Other areas affected include Sherwood Park, Strathcona County, Sturgeon County, Lamont County, St. Albert, and Edmonton.

The high-risk air quality is expected to reduce to moderate risk on Monday (Sep. 18) night.
