JRC modernization project begins

The modernization project for the Jubilee Recreation Centre (JRC) is now underway.

Construction crews are outside of the JRC tearing apart the centre, including removing the iconic mural in the front of the building.

However, this is only paving the way for a completely upgraded and renovated JRC with an extra 12,9000 square feet of space.

These renovations include a new lobby, entrance, and even more changerooms. There will also be a ramp and elevator added to help with accessibility. There are also plans to add a viewing area in the lobby.

While construction is underway, temporary change rooms and washrooms have been brought in. The ice will still be available to use during construction.

Plans to upgrade the JRC have been in the works for almost 15 years. The cost of renovations is around $16.5 million.
