Alberta RCMP respond to hundreds of collisions due to poor weather

The Alberta RCMP have had a busy week since the snow fell in the area on Monday.

On October 23, police across Alberta responded to over 277 collisions due to the poor weather conditions.

Police are asking that residents take precautions when travelling or to consider avoiding travel due to icy roads and blowing snow.

Ways to keep safe on the road this winter include:
Get your vehicle ready for winter in the fall
Pack an emergency kit
Learn and practice winter driving techniques
Remove all snow from your vehicle before each trip
Give yourself extra travel time in bad weather
Travel with a fully charged cell phone for emergency situations
Slow down and wear your seatbelt

You can also check your route on the 511 Alberta website prior to travelling to get a look on road conditions before you leave.

The RCMP also give plenty of winter driving tips throughout the season. You can see these tips on their Facebook and Twitter pages.
