Fort Saskatchewan considers bringing in more security cameras

Fort Saskatchewan may be getting some more security cameras throughout the city.

These new cameras have been proposed in the city’s 2024 budget and were proposed to help prevent vandalism at facilities around Fort Saskatchewan.

According to officials, they’d like to install security cameras at the Fort Heritage Precinct, CN Station, Legacy Park, and West River’s Edge. On top of this, the proposal would also replace the Dow Centennial Centre security cameras with a new central system.

In recent years, vandalism has been on the rise in Fort Saskatchewan. In 2020 there were 11 incidents of vandalism reported, while there were 48 in 2022.

RCMP would be able to access recordings made by these cameras to help combat vandalism, but under Alberta law, they’re not allowed to have a direct live feed.
