A local group of volunteers, on a mission to help Ukrainian’s fleeing the ongoing Russian invasion resettle in Fort Saskatchewan, will hold a fundraiser on Saturday from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. at Legacy Jewellers.
“Omar [of Legacy Jewellers] has a showcase of items, that for a donation, people can choose an item to take home, and these are good quality items that he specifically picks out for this.” said Kath Stevenson, a volunteer with Hosting Ukrainians Fort Saskatchewan.
The event will also feature baked treats and beverages from Sweet K&A Bakery. “I don’t know if you’ve tried her goods yet, but they are delicious,” Stephenson raved.
Hosting Ukrainians says participants are welcome to make use of a Christmas-themed backdrop to have their photo taken by a volunteer with the community group using your device.
In addition, local musician Dwayne Kushniruk will perform traditional Ukrainian songs on accordion from opening until approximately 12 p.m.
Legacy Jewellers is located on the southeast side of 100 Ave between 103 and 104 streets in Fort Saskatchewan.
Stevenson said, since the conflict with Russia ballooned into a full-scale invasion, the Hosting Ukrainians Fort Saskatchewan team has helped more than 80 people set down new roots in the city, more than 24 families in all.
