The Last of Us named “largest” series filmed in Canada

The Last of Us has been named the largest series ever filmed in Canada.

According to Oxford Economics, $141 million was spent in Alberta during the filming of the show’s first season. Half of that cash went towards local cast and crew, while the rest went towards local businesses.

The sheer amount spent in the province makes The Last of Us “the largest series ever filmed in Canada.”

Officials with Oxford Economics said that the series supported over 1,000 Alberta businesses.

The Last of Us was filmed in over 180 locations throughout the province, creating over 1,400 jobs and generations over $180 million for Alberta’s GDP. These locations include just outside of the Albert legislature in Edmonton.

The show was nominated for 24 Emmys, with the second season currently being filmed in Vancouver.

The Last of Us’ second season is expected to release in 2025.
