New Years Celebrations coming to Sherwood Park

Broadmoor Lake Park will be hosting the New Years Celebrations in Strathcona County this year.

On New Years’ Eve, starting at 6 p.m., the celebrations get started, with activities at Festival Place, and the Sherwood Park Arena and Sports Centre.

“For those looking to take part in the celebration, we remind everyone to dress warmly as activities will take place both indoors and outdoors. Activities include snowshoeing, s’mores, ice sculptures, cabane à sucre, shinny hockey, skating and more!” says Cassandra McDonald with Strathcona County. “Warm up with hot chocolate or apple cider and enjoy performances by an aerial artist or fire dancer.”

Finally, at 8 p.m. the event concludes with fireworks show, with free earplugs for those with sensitive hearing. The fireworks can best be seen from Broadmoor Lake Park at the plaza.

As Festival Way will be closed during the event, there will be a free Transit Park N’ Ride program departing the Bethel Transit Terminal starting at 5:30. Buses will be running to Festival Place and back every 15 minutes.

Although the event is free to attend, the county asks that in the spirit of giving, you bring a donation for the Strathcona Food Bank.

You can see a full list of the celebration’s activities on the Strathcona County website.
