RCMP gives tips to keep safe this New Years weekend

Alberta RCMP are wishing residents all across the province a safe and happy New Year by giving tips on how to ensure safety this holiday season.

Their first tip is on road safety. With increased drivers during the holiday season, this brings the possibility of impaired drivers on the road. Police ask that residents plan travel options ahead of time and keep a close eye on weather conditions in the area.

The RCMP added that they will be making every effort to ensure the roads are safe over the long weekend.

Another tip police gave was on firework safety, especially with an especially dry season lately. Police ask that residents purchase fireworks from a reliable source and never try to make their own, while also making sure to check on local regulations and bylaws regarding the personal use of fireworks.

Finally, police are reminding residents to lock their doors and set alarms when they’re headed out for the night, and to make sure vehicles are parked in well-lit areas with all valuables remove.
