Elk Island Public and Catholic School Boards Cancel Friday Bus Service

Extreme cold weather due to an Arctic air mass freezing Alberta has led Elk Island Public Schools and Elk Island Catholic Schools to cancel bus service to and from school on Friday, a second day in a row.

In a media release Elk Island Public Schools said schools will remain open and classes will proceed on schedule. Public school board buses facilitate transportation to and from some of the Catholic board’s schools.

In a separate media release, Elk Island Catholic Schools says schools are open and classes will proceed as regularly scheduled.

Environment Canada predicts the temperature to drop to -36°C in time for the morning commute, with a wind chill value of -42°C. The weather agency has issued an extreme cold warning for the entire province of Alberta.
