Strathcona County RCMP arrest suspect in connection to “Grandparent Scam”

Earlier this week Strathcona County RCMP arrested a man in connection to an ongoing grandparent scam.

According to police, they began the investigation on January 17 where an unknown man was trying to defraud a 93-year-old man of $11,000.

The unknown man was pretending to be the victim’s grandson, claiming that he needed bail money to get out of jail. Investigators later discovered that the victim’s grandson was not in jail.

The following day, police arrested 38-year-old Chad Beck, a resident of Edmonton, and charged him with fraud over $5,000.

Beck remains in custody and will be appearing in a St. Albert court on January 22.
