Edmonton Police Standoff With Barricaded Man in Queen Alexandra Ends in Fire, Evacuation

Edmonton Police Service was kept busy trying to assist another agency with apprehending a man under court order between 5:00 p.m. Thursday into the early morning hours Friday at an apartment on 107 Street and 79 Avenue in the Queen Alexandra area, the police service said.

Police say the man “barricaded himself in the suite,” and a fire broke out inside, resulting in the evacuation of the entire building. The man was apprehended at 12:48 a.m., an email from a police spokesperson said.

Residents were sheltered in Edmonton Transit Service buses. Several of the residents were transported to hospital for medical assessment.
