EPS: Violent Sex offender released a month after breaching conditions

Edmonton Police Service (EPS) are issuing a warning about the release of Laverne Waskahat, a convicted violent sex offender.

Waskahat was arrested on December 13, 2023, just a day after being released, for failing to report with her parole officer. She was released again on January 22.

According to police, Waskahat is a significant harm to the community and is at risk of committing a sexual offence against a child under the age of 16. Wakahat has a history of possessing, making, and publishing child pornography involving infants under 3 years old.

Waskahat is known to offend against children while in a position of care over them and has been known to take voyeuristic photos of infants in public.

Edmonton police are issuing this warning in the interest of public safety, and anyone with information about any criminal offenses committed by Waskahat by reaching out to EPS at 780-423-4567.
