Three players from the Gibbons Broncos hockey team have been selected to take part in the Noralta Junior Hockey League’s (NJHL) All Star Game.
The game takes place at 8:45 p.m. at the Mark Messier Arena in Sherwood Park on Friday (Jan. 26).
The three players who were named as All Stars include forward Bobby Cole, leftwing Josh Sterling, and defencemen Aidan Mifflin.
“It feels great to be the one defencemen on our team to go,” said Mifflin. “I won provincials in Bantam playing as a forward. As I continued growing, the coaches saw something in me and taught me defence. I’ve loved it ever since.”
The Broncos will be playing on Team Tony, playing alongside the following teams,
- Beaumont Buccaneers
- Sherwood Park Renegades
- Devon Bison
- SWZ Oil Kings
- The Knights
- SEERA icemen
“Obviously we’re going to see some guys that we’ve competed against and chirped a few times,” laughed Sterling. “But I’m sure it will be all fun and we’ll see how competitive it is and go from there.”
The other team, Team Martin, consists of the following teams:
- St. Albert Comets
- Edmonton Mavericks
- SWZ Ice Kings
- NEZ Northstars
- Junior Braves
- Millet Lightning
- Strathcona Warriors
“I go out there and give it my all, and it paid off,” added Cole.
Each team has a total of 3 goalies, 12 forwards, and 6 defencemen selected to play.
The NJHL All Star Game is free to attend, with the NJHL encouraging everyone to come out and cheer on the teams and players.
