Special Air Quality Statement issued for the area

Environment Canada has issued a Special Air Quality Statement for Edmonton and the surrounding area.

This statement comes as stagnant winter weather is creating elevated pollution levels, with fine particulate matter being observed over Edmonton.

This may lead to people experiencing symptoms such as:

  • Increased coughing
  • Throat irritation
  • Headaches
  • Shortness of breath

Children, seniors, and those with lung disease such as asthma, are especially at risk.

Environment Canada suggest that people experiencing these symptoms limit their time spent outside until the special air quality statement is lifted.
