Edmonton Police Probe West Ed Shooting

Edmonton Police Service is searching for two suspects accused of forcing open the door to a motel room, shooting a man inside, and causing stray bullets to hit a nearby home on Friday, January 26 at about 7:15 p.m.

The break and enter and shooting happened at a motel near 151 Street and 111 Avenue in West Edmonton. “The bullets travelled through the suite and into a residence just South of the motel,” Police said in a news release.

The suspects, described as a man and a woman, fled Westbound on foot.

The victim, a man in his 30s, was transported to the hospital to be treated for serious injuries, Police said he remains in the hospital in stable condition.

“At this time, we do not believe this was a random event,” said Ahmed Alkarout, a staff sergeant with an EPS investigative team. “However, when a shooting takes place in a public space such as a motel, there are always concerns for public safety and we are thankful that citizens in the community were not injured or killed in this incident.”

“Detectives continue to investigate this shooting and are asking anyone with information about the shooting or the suspects to contact police,” the EPS news release said.

Anyone with information about this incident is asked to call EPS at 780-423-4567. Anonymous tips can be submitted to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
