St. Albert opens nominations for Poet Laureate

The City of St. Albert and the St. Albert Public Library has opened nominations for the new Poet Laureate position.

The Poet Laureate is appointed by a government to compose poems for special events and occasions. This honourary title is a two-year position open to anyone over 16 who either works, lives, or plays in St. Albert.

“I look forward to seeing the quality of nominees this recruitment brings and am eager to enjoy the next two years under a renewed vision for the role,” said St. Albert mayor Cathy Heron.

The person selected for Poet Laureate will be receiving an honorarium of $1,000 for each year of the position.

Responsibilities of the Poet Laureate include readings at public events and connecting culture and poetry within the city.

Nominations are open now, ending on March 1. You can make your nomination by visiting the City of St. Albert website here.
