Four young skiers representing St. Albert at Alberta Winter Games

Four young skiers will be representing the St. Albert Nordic Ski Club at the upcoming Alberta Winter Games.

The Alberta Winter Games will be hosted in Grande Prairie starting on Friday (Feb. 16) and ending the following Monday.

Representing St. Albert will be Erik Christianson, Peyton and Ethan Malott, and Oliver Price, all competing in skate sprints, classic distance, and relay races in their age categories.

Oliver is competing in U16 Boys, Ethan and Erik are competing in U14 Boys, and Peyton is competing in U12 girls.

These kids competed for the spot back in December, and although Peyton and Ethan didn’t make the cut, they got the chance to play after two other players were unavailable.

Preparing for the competition, the players had to train on dry-land for many days due to the lack of snow on the ground. This is done through various strength and agility exercises.

Their first competition is the skate sprints, which take place on Saturday.
