Gallery: Warm weather at Winterfest 2024

It was a warmer than usual Family Day in Fort Saskatchewan, leading to a huge turnout at the annual Winterfest.

Winterfest is put on by the Fort Historical Society and held at the Fort Heritage Precinct. The event features fire pits, curling, maple toffee, and the popular vintage snowmobile show.

“This has been going on for about 17 years,” said Stuart McGowan, president of the Fort Historical Society. “One of the things that attracts people to our event: we don’t charge for registration.”

Although the morning started off cold, temperatures got to as high of – 3 C during the daytime.

“The only thing it really impacts is all the other events. It doesn’t impact the vintage snowmobile part of it. Those guys are crazy,” laughed McGowan.

Next year the historical society is thinking about bringing a concession stand to Winterfest, delivering hot food for people who attend.
