Gibbons Broncos playoff season begins this weekend

The Gibbons Broncos are kicking off the Noralta Junior C Hockey League (NJHL)  playoff season with high spirits.

After ending the regular season with three straight wins, the Broncos will be heading into the first round with a best-of-three series against the SWZ Oil Kings, the reigning NJHL champions.

“We’re trying to get some extra work in, trying to make sure everything is down to our best details,” said Reece Reaville, #19 and centre with the Broncos. “They’ve got a lot of highly skilled guys on their team. They’re a good matchup for us.”

“We’ve got a lot of hardworking guys on our team. We really gelled as a group this year. There’s not a whole lot of quit in our team. Everyone is happy to play until the buzzer goes regardless of the score,” added Reaville.

Their first game is on Sunday (Feb. 28) at Londonderry Arena at 7:45 p.m., with the second game being at Gibbons Arena on February 28 at 8 p.m. If necessary, the final game will be on February 29 at Terwillegar D Arena at 8 p.m.

“It’s probably going to be the toughest game of the season so far,  but we definitely can beat them,” said Aidan Mifflin, #9 and defencemen. “We have the team to do it. We can skate. We can hit.”

There’s a full schedule of Gibbons Broncos games available on the NJHL website, with the Broncos also having a website of their own.

“The regular season is over now, so now it’s about keeping forward and finding ways to win as a team and come together,” said Josh Sterling, #14 and leftwing. “We’ve battled so much adversity and had so many ups and downs that I believe we can do anything. It’s going to be exciting.”
