Federal and provincial governments plan to invest $112M to bring fast internet to rural areas in Alberta

The plan of this new program is to increase connectivity in rural, remote, and in Indigenous comminities.

Both the Provincial and Federal Governments are going to invest over $112 million to connect homes across the province. The investment will connect more than 22,500 homes with high speed internet. Alberta is planning to have full connectivity by 2027.

“Internet is no longer a luxury – it’s a necessity. That is why your government made a historic commitment to connect 98 per cent of Canadians to high-speed internet by 2026.” -Gudie Hutchings, federal Minister of Rural Economic Development.

Since the partnership with  Canada-Alberta Broadband, both governments have given around $211 million divided by 26 project to cover 33,000 households, construction continues in 17 of these projects around Alberta.
