Edmonton police arrest suspect in overpass assault

The Edmonton Police Service (EPS) have arrested a man who was allegedly throwing objects off the Whitemud overpass.

The report was made on Wednesday where police were told that a large metal object was thrown from the Whitemud onto a moving vehicle. The object smashed the vehicle’s windshield and struck an adult passenger who was sitting next to an infant.

The woman was taken to hospital and treated for serious injuries while police identified the suspect was 34-year-old Getnet Teklay.

Teklay was charged with mischief endangering life, aggravated assault, and assault with a weapon.

Police are now looking into if this event is linked to the other incidents of objects being thrown from the same overpass, with nine incidents being reported over the last few months.
