Morinville RCMP rammed while stopping dangerous driver

A Morinville RCMP vehicle was rammed by a suspect following reports of an impaired driver earlier this week.

In the early hours of Wednesday morning police responded to reports of a driver erratically swerving at vehicles, hitting snowbanks, and passing on the shoulder of the road.

Police tracked the suspect vehicle on Highway 642 and Highway 28 and initiated a traffic stop, which led to the suspect vehicle ramming into the police vehicle while erratically waving his arms.

Officers managed to get inside the vehicle before the driver had a chance to get away, with the suspect assaulting an officer during the arrest. Police then tased and OC sprayed the suspect, who was still trying to flee.

Officers were able to arrest the suspect and after searching their car, discovered a firearm.

Police have charged 34-year-old Eric Steven Brown with:

  • Assault police officer;
  • Dangerous Operation of a motor vehicle;
  • Flight from police;
  • Resist arrest;
  • Weapons offences (x4);
  • Possession of a firearm contrary to an order (x4);
  • Operation of a motor vehicle while prohibited.
  • Identity theft;

Brown remains in custody and will be appearing in a St. Albert court next Monday.
