Edmonton police identify suspect in sexual assault against teenage girl

Edmonton police have identified the 20-year-old suspect in a sexual assault that happened in early March.

According to police, the assault was on March 5 at the Terwillegar Recreation Centre. It was reported to police that a 13-year-old girl entered a family change room stall and was followed in by the suspect, who sexually assaulted her.

The suspect turned himself in two days after the assault following police releasing a photo and description of him to the public the night before.

Police have now identified the suspect as Tran Nguyen and have charged him with sexual contact with a child, sexual assault causing bodily harm, and unlawful confinement.

Edmonton police’s Child Protection Section are now working alongside the Zebra Child and Youth Advocacy Centre to provide support for the victim and her family.
