EPS: Update given on ‘suspicious’ parkade death

Edmonton police have given an update on the suspicious death that happened in February.

According to police, they responded to reports of an altercation between a security guard and a male suspect at a parkade near 101 Street and 102 Avenue.

Police say they were told that the suspect was breaking into vehicles right before the altercation. When officers arrived, they discovered the security guard in medical distress.

The security guard was taken to hospital where he was later pronounced deceased, with the suspect being taken into custody shortly after.

An autopsy was done a few days after the man’s death, with police requiring further testing to determine a cause of death. However, police have since determined that the man’s death was non-criminal in nature.

Meanwhile the suspect is facing charges of mischief, breaking probation, and owning break in tools.
