Edmonton police have arrested two teenagers following a series of assaults at LRT stations in early April.
On April 1 just after midnight, a 40-year-old man was approached by two suspects at the Muttart LRT station. Without provocation, one of the suspects began attacking the man with a baton. The assault continued as the man tried to run away.
Paramedics were called to the scene where they took the man to hospital with serious, life-threatening injuries.
A few hours later, a 27-year-old woman reported that she was approached by two suspects at the Churchill LRT Station. While the woman was climbing a set of stairs, the suspects kicked her down before fleeing the scene.
Paramedics arrived at the scene, but the woman did not require treatment for her injuries.
As investigators were at the scene of the Churchill LRT assault, they were approached by a 32-year-old man who had also been assaulted with a baton. According to police, he did not have any injuries.
Just before 3 a.m. police located the two suspects, who were loitering at the Churchill LRT Station. Police discovered that the suspects were only 14-years-old.
Both suspects are facing charges of aggravated assault, assault with a weapon, robbery, and possession of a weapon. One of the suspects is also facing charges of breaching release conditions.
Both suspects will not be named as they’re protected under the Youth Criminal Justice Act.
