This weekend marks the return of Fort Saskatchewan Disc Golf, with the first event of the season happening at Legacy Park.
This event, called the Legacy Park Clean-up and Play, is happening on Sunday starting at 1 p.m. and running until 4.
“Join us for an afternoon of cleaning up one of Fort Saskatchewan’s most beautiful parks,” wrote Fort Saskatchewan Disc Golf. “After our hard work we will set up 3 temporary baskets and throw some discs around!”
Darryl Henderson, who helps run Fort Saskatchewan disc golf, said that this event has several purposes.
“It’s not going to be a course, we’re just trying to get out and get people excited about our upcoming season,” said Henderson.
Garbage bags and plastic gloves will be provided, but residents are welcome to bring their own. The cleanup will run until 2:30 p.m. before kicking off the disc golf games for the rest of the event.
“We have a long term goal of hopefully having a disc golf course built in Fort Saskatchewan somewhere along the way. We’re going about it by doing several meet-and-greet style events.”
Although Fort has yet to get it’s own disc golf course, temporary baskets are available to rent for free from the City of Fort Saskatchewan.
“I believe there’s two or three of them at Harbour Pool, and another six or so at the Dow Centre, and we’ve utilized them before.”
The Legacy Park Clean-up and Play is one of many events happening throughout the year, with updates being provided on their Facebook page.
