Man rescued from burning apartment building in Edmonton

Edmonton firefighters rescued a man trapped on the balcony of a burning apartment building yesterday afternoon.

Just before 2 p.m. firefighters were called to an apartment building near Jasper Avenue and 110 Street, with a second-alarm being called in just five minutes after firefighters arrived.

In total there were eight trucks and 32 firefighters on the scene battling the blaze, with smoke from the fire billowing into the sky.

As crews fought the fire, they noticed a man on a balcony screaming for help. The man was rescued by a ladder truck and taken to hospital.

Firefighters also managed to save a few cats from the burning building, while helping two people with mobility issues.

The cause of the fire is still unknown, with four suites being destroyed in the blaze.
