Elk Island Public Schools receive award from Alberta School Councils’ Association

Late last month Elk Island Public Schools (EIPS) received a distinction from the Alberta School Councils’ Association.

At their annual conference banquet on April 27, the association awarded EIPS the Council Engagement Award, with the award being presented to the Board of Trustees on May 1.

“We’re honoured to receive this award,” said Cathy Allen, the Board Chair at EIPS. “It’s a shining example of the partnership we have between the Division and the families at the schools across EIPS. Without their support, we wouldn’t be the school division we are today.”

EIPS’ nomination mentioned commitment to parent and caregiver engagement – which the division itself made a priority in the EIPS Four-Year Education Plan.

“This is our award—the families, the schools and the Division altogether,” said Sandra Stoddard, the Superintendent at EIPS. “We received this honour because of the effort and dedication of so many people across EIPS. I’m proud to work in a division that truly values parent engagement and can’t wait to explore even more possibilities to get parents and caregivers involved in their child’s education.”

EIPS is one of the largest school divisions in the province, teaching over 17,000 students in 42 schools across Alberta.
