Voting open for 2024 Garbage Can Design Contest

The City of St. Albert has opened up voting for their annual Garbage Can Design Contest.

Voting is open until May 10, with the contest part of the Spruce Up St. Albert program, presented by TD.

This contest involves local students painting garbage cans in an effort to beautify the city, with this year’s theme being “The Vital Role of Pollinators”.

“Did you know that there are thousands of pollinators in Canada? This includes butterflies, moths, beetles, flies, hummingbirds and over 800 species of native bees,” wrote the city on its website. “These essential creatures contribute to the rich biodiversity of our ecosystem and help ensure an abundance of food supply.”

There are 17 garbage cans to vote on, with all of them painted by students in the city, from Sturgeon Heights Kindergarten class to a Grade 3 class at Joseph Demko.

Voting is available on the City of St. Albert website, with the winners being announced on May 16.
