Alberta RCMP preparing to target unsafe driving for May long weekend

Police in Alberta will be patrolling roads over the weekend as part of Canada Road Safety Week.

This week, which runs from May 14 to May 20, is designed to promote safe driving measures in the province by focusing on behaviours that present risk to drivers.

These behaviours include distracted driving, driving without a seatbelt, fatigue, and impaired driving.

During last year’s Canada Road Safety Week, police took 205 impaired drivers off the road, with 7,707 impaired drivers being caught throughout all of 2023.

The RCMP are offering tips to drivers, such as reporting aggresive drivers, arranging for transportation if you consume drugs or alcohol, and to get enough sleep before getting behind the wheel.
