67% of Edmontonians believe Mayor Amarjeet Sohi is not doing an adequate job, this according to a recent Leger poll. 32% of respondents said that Edmonton was “strongly [on the] wrong track” under Sohi’s leadership.
Edmontonians would be most likely to support another candidate if an election were held today, with only 16% voting to re-elect Mayor Sohi, and 43% voting for somebody else, according to the poll.
The poll gauged which issues important to Edmontonians where Sohi is succeeding and failing. Mayor Sohi scored well in the areas of alternative transportation, condition of infrastructure, and the environment.
Property taxes, affordability, and fees for services were among the areas where Mayor Sohi has performed poorly.
Sohi is a former Liberal MP and cabinet minister, representing the riding of Edmonton Mill Woods in the southeast corner of Edmonton from 2015 until his defeat in 2019.
Leger surveyed 401 Edmontonians age 18 and over between May 22 and 25, 2024. Results were weighted according to age, gender, region, and education in order to ensure a representative sample of the Edmonton population, yielding a margin of error no greater than ±4.9% (19 times out of 20).
