Assault suspect shot by EPS

A male suspect has sustained life-threatening injuries after being shot by Edmonton police.

EPS attended a residence near 109 Avenue and 93 Street on report of an assault early Sunday morning.  It was reported that a 33-year-old male had assaulted another male in the home.

When police arrived, the male suspect exited the residence carrying a weapon, and a confrontation occurred between the suspect and police, resulting in the officers discharging their firearms. The 33-year-old male was struck and sustained life-threatening injuries. He was treated and transported to hospital, where he is currently in stable condition.

A bullet was found to have struck a neighbouring residence, but no one in the residence was injured.  No other civilians or EPS officers were injured during this incident.

As with all officer-involved shootings, Alberta Serious Incident Response Team (ASIRT) is investigating.
