Elks looking to rebound after season-opening loss, host Montreal

The Elks schedule doesn’t get any easier as they face the defending Grep Cup champion Montreal Alouettes Friday night at Commonwealth Stadium.  Kickoff is at 7pm.

The Als are coming off a Week 1 win over the Winnipeg Blue Bombers in a rematch of last year’s Grey Cup.

Making things tougher for the Elks is that it was only six days between games after losing to the Riders last Saturday.  However, a short week also means less time to dwell on the past and imposes a sense of urgency.

Elks quarterback McLeod Bethel-Thompson will be looking to build on a solid Week 1 outing, where he completed 34 of 42 passes for 336 yards and two touchdowns.  Bethel-Thompson will have to be careful not to repeat his two late turnovers from Week 1, as the Als defence can make a sloppy opposing offence pay just like they did agains the Bombers.
