Life in the Heartland wins prestigious award

Fort Saskatchewan organization Life in the Heartland is a recipient of the 2024 Canadian Fuels Association (CFA) Community Champion Award of Excellence. The award ceremony took place at the Rideau Club in Ottawa, ON, on June 5, 2024.

The CFA Community Champion Award celebrates a local partner or stakeholder of a CFA member company that has worked to enhance the quality of life in their surrounding community.

“We are honoured and humbled to be acknowledged by NWR and the CFA as a community champion for our work across the region,” said Life in the Heartland Community Engagement Director, Sheena Fitzpatrick.  “Life in the Heartland is committed to improving resident awareness about existing industrial operations. By building relationships and facilitating a two-way dialogue, we’re creating a more engaged community that fosters social license for industry companies operating in Alberta’s Industrial Heartland.”

Life in the Heartland is a collaborative partnership between Alberta’s Industrial Heartland Association, Heartland Air Monitoring Partnership, Northeast Capital Industrial Association, and Northeast Region Community Awareness Emergency Response. Working to deliver relevant and credible information on operations in Alberta’s Industrial Heartland, Life in the Heartland communicates and engages with the community to benefit residents and foster social license for industry companies operating in the region.

Life in the Heartland fuels resident engagement across the region by communicating through newsletters, publications, and social media, hosting community events, and sponsorships of community events. Additionally, companies operating in Alberta’s Industrial Heartland are guided by input from Life in the Heartland’s Regional Advisory Committee—a group of community members who provide an external, critical perspective on topics of importance related to industry activities in the region.

The CFA Awards of Excellence is an annual event that celebrates excellence within the transportation fuels sector and recognizes the individuals and groups who play a pivotal role in helping advance transportation fuels in Canada.
