Oilers offence erupts for eight goals in Game 4

The Oilers found their offensive mojo Saturday night, dominating the Panthers 8-1 in Game 4 of the Stanley Cup Final.  Seven different scorers found the back of the net, and Captain Connor McDavid set a new playoff assist record in the win.

The Oilers came out firing on all cylinders in the first period, opening the scoring at 16:49 on a shorthanded goal by Mattias Janmark.  That was followed at 12:12 by a goal by Adam Henrique.  Vladimir Tarasenko would get the Panthers on the board, but that would be as close as they’d get, as the Panthers would surrender six unanswered goals to the Oilers.

Panthers goaltender Sergei Bobrovsky was chased early in the second period after allowing his fifth goal.

The penalty killing unit was its usual stingy self, not allowing any Panthers goals in addition to scoring a shorthanded goal.  The Edmonton power play was 1 for 4 on the night, with Ryan Nugent-Hopkins scoring on a 5-on-3 in the second period.

Connor McDavid’s three assists in the game give him 32 for the playoffs, a new record.  The old record of 31 was set in 1988 by Wayne Gretzky.

The Oilers and Panthers square off in Game 5 on Tuesday in Sunrise, FL.
