Small AI robot roaming around federal offices raises concerns among workers.

A small robot has been roaming around federal government offices, or the purpose of collecting data on air quality, light levels, noise, humidity, temperature, and levels of CO2, methane, and other gases.

It has about 20 censors and a 360 degree camera.

“We believe that one of the robot’s tasks is to monitor who is there and who is not.” -Bruce Roy, Government Services Union

Despite its intended purpose to monitor environmental conditions, the presence of the robot has sparked unease among public servants and workers who feel it encroaches on their workspace. Some have expressed concerns that the robot is monitoring personnel attendance since workers are now required to be in the office at least 3 times a week.

Additionally, there are questions being asked about the data collected by the robot, including worries about how it will be used and stored.
