Alberta NDP members have chosen former Calgary mayor Naheed Nenshi as their new leader.
And it wasn’t even close. Nenshi secured 86% of the vote on the first ballot, with none of the other three candidates cracking double digit support.
“We are a completely unified team,” Nenshi said during his acceptance speech.
Now the leader of the opposition, Nenshi will have to turn his attention to securing a seat in the Legislature. A possible riding for Nenshi to run in would be Lethbridge-West, which is being vacated by MLA Shannon Phillips on July 1, although there has been no indication that Nenshi will seek the seat.
