EPS are warning the public that a violent sexual offender is being released from custody on June 22, and believe he may reoffend.
“Darrell Gauthier is a convicted violent sexual offender, and the Edmonton Police Service has reasonable grounds to believe he will commit another violent offence against someone while in the community,” said an EPS news release.
Upon his release, Gauthier will be residing in Edmonton.
According to police, Gauthier is a sexual offender who has been violent in the past, resulting in physical harm to his victims in the commission of an offence. Gauthier has victimized an adolescent female in a sexual manner. He also assaulted security officers and other male victims with weapons.
Gauthier has been placed on a series of court-ordered conditions including:
- Must live at a residence approved by his Supervisor and must not change that address until he has received written approval from his Supervisor.
- Must abide by a curfew of 9 PM to 6 AM daily unless a varied time is approved in writing by his Supervisor.
- Must not travel out of the City of Edmonton without written approval of his Supervisor.
- Not to be in the presence of any children under the age of 16 unless accompanied by a responsible adult who knows his criminal history and has been approved by his supervisor or designate.
- Shall not purchase, possess, or consume any alcoholic beverages; shall not consume or possess any drug listed in the Schedule of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act, excluding cannabis, any prescription drugs not prescribed to him or any other intoxicating substances.
- Shall not be in possession of weapons of any kind.

Gauthier is 38 years old, 5’7” (170 cm) tall, weighs 190 lbs (86 Kg), has brown eyes and brown hair.
Police advise that the intent of releasing this information is to enable citizens to take precautionary measures, and that releasing this information is not intended to encourage people to engage in any form of vigilante action which itself could constitute a criminal offense.
