WestJet cancels flights as strike deadline looms

As a strike looms at WestJet tomorrow, the airline is moving to contain any chaos by cancelling some flights.

The Calgary-based carrier says its mechanics’ union is poised to strike as early as Friday at 5:30pm Mountain Time.

As a result, WestJet announced Wednesday night that it has cancelled 25 flights today and tomorrow to ensure it won’t leave any passengers and crew stranded.

The flight cancellations, just ahead of the Canada Day long weekend, affect about 3300 customers.
