Child dies, two injured in vehicle-pedestrian collision

A three-year-old boy has died as a result of being hit by a car Thursday evening in South Edmonton.

Police responded to a collision involving a truck and three pedestrians near Allard Road SW and Allard Boulevard SW. A truck was travelling northbound on Allard Road SW when it stopped at the three-way stop at Allard Boulevard SW. At the same time, an adult woman and her two young children, a boy and a girl, were walking eastbound across Allard Road SW in a marked crosswalk on the south side of the intersection.  After stopping briefly, the truck reportedly turned westbound onto Allard Boulevard SW, running over the boy and striking the mother and her daughter.

EMS declared the boy dead at the scene.

The boy’s mother and seven-year-old sister were treated by paramedics and transported to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.  The drive of the truck, a 30-year-old male, remained on the scene and did not report any injuries.

Speed and alcohol are not believed to be factors in this collision.
