Lots of Alberta drug loss cases have no explanation.

From 2018 to 2023, 52 percent of prescription drug losses remained unexplained, with 30 percent attributed to armed robberies. Opioid painkillers such as codeine and oxycodone were among the most affected medications.

Health Canada suggests that changes in reporting figures may be influenced by factors such as enhanced compliance with regulations and an increase in the number of pharmacies.

Ontario reported the highest losses, totaling 1.5 million units, while Alberta followed closely behind in second place.
