Nobody will ever accuse some criminals of being Rhodes Scholars.
A Wetaskiwin man was arrested in two separate cities by two separate RCMP detachments and was charged with two separate sets of crimes.
Jamie Swinamer, 35, and another person were screaming at each other in a car parked near the Dickson Dam on June 28, causing a resident to call the police. RCMP de-escalated the situation; however one of the persons involved provided RCMP with a false name.
Swinamer was charged with:
- Obstruction;
- Two counts of fail to comply with a release order.
RCMP held Swinamer for a Judicial Interim release hearing and on June 29, at which time he was released by a Justice of the Peace.
A short time later on June 29, an SUV was stolen from a residence in Innisfail. A family member of the owner saw the vehicle on Highway 2 near Wetaskiwin. Wetaskiwin RCMP intercepted the vehicle and you’ll never believe who they arrested.
Jamie Swinamer, 35, was additionally charged with the following offenses:
- Possession of property obtained by crime;
- Fail to comply with release order;
- Drive while unauthorized;
- Drive uninsured motor vehicle.
A Second judicial Interim Release hearing was held for Swinamer where he was remanded into custody.
Swinamer is scheduled to appear at the Alberta Court of Justice in Wetaskiwin on July 9 and at the Alberta Court of Justice in Red Deer on July 24.
