EPS searching for a BMW SUV suspected of impersonating police

Edmonton police are searching for a BMW SUV suspected of impersonating police vehicles in recent incidents.

Reports indicate the vehicle, identified as a BMW X5 equipped with flashing blue and red lights mounted on the front, has been involved in unauthorized stops. Authorities are urging anyone with information about the vehicle or its driver to come forward.

Concerns over such impersonations were highlighted in 2017 when a woman was stopped by an impersonator and subsequently sexually assaulted. In response, police emphasize that legitimate officers will always request identification and provide a reason for the stop. Citizens are advised to ask to see an officer’s badge and verify their identity through official channels or by contacting emergency services if suspicions arise.

Anyone with info about the suspect SUV is asked to contact the EPS at 780-423-4567 or #377 from a mobile phone.

Anonymous information can be submitted to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 or online.
