St. Albert Servus Place rec centre faces theft of electric vehicle charging stations

A recreation centre in St. Albert is dealing with a troubling case of vandalism and theft targeting its electric vehicle charging stations, believed to have been stripped for their copper content.

City officials report all eight cables from the charging stations cut and stolen on June 3rd. St. Albert RCMP have launched an investigation into the incident, reviewing surveillance footage from the parking lot.

The cost to replace the stolen stations is estimated by the city to be between $5,000 and $6,000.

For those stealing them, the copper wires inside would only land them a couple bucks, raising suspicion from police as they now think there could be other reasons for the theft, same think it could be due to EV oppositions.
