A 6-year-old girl suffered a seizure due to carbon monoxide poisoning from her family’s boat exhaust.
According to her father, Brandon Ryan, the girl rapidly transitioned from laughter and giggling to a severe seizure in just 10 seconds. She collapsed to her side and stopped breathing, prompting immediate medical intervention.
Medical personnel administered oxygen and conducted tests which revealed alarmingly high levels of carbon monoxide in her system. To treat the poisoning, both the girl and her father had to undergo a three-hour session in a hyperbaric oxygen chamber.
In light of this incident, boat operators are strongly advised to turn off their engines when not in motion and to remain vigilant for symptoms of carbon monoxide exposure such as nausea, headaches, or dizziness.
