Disney changes a character’s name after 50 years because it’s “offensive”

Disney has changed the name of one of its characters after it was determined it was “offensive” and “derogatory” and now Liver Lips Mcgrowl will not be coming back to the Country Bear Jamboree attraction.

It was first opened back in 1971 and it featured 18 ears preforming country songs.

In their “Inside the Magic” blog, Disney said the bear’s name was derogatory to alcoholics. “Liver Lips” was supposed to be associated with the over consumption of alcohol, leading to liver damage.

They said that they are rectifying  “outdated or culturally insensitive elements within its attractions.”

“This evolution is driven by a desire to create a more inclusive and welcoming environment for all guests.”.

The bear was replaced by a new character, Romeo McGrowl, who pretty much looks exactly the same.
