Wildfires in the area have led RCMP to close Highway 16 for westbound travel at the Jasper Park gates on the east side. Eastbound access to Jasper is also restricted during firefighting efforts.
RCMP are advising against travel west of Hinton.
For those heading west, RCMP recommend detouring north through Grande Prairie on Hwy 40 or south via Hwy 1 through British Columbia. Travelers from British Columbia to Alberta should detour south on Hwy 1 or north on Hwy 2.
Authorities urge motorists to avoid the Jasper National Park area along Highway 16 to allow First Responders to work safely.
