Four additional trees were uprooted in Gibbons over the weekend, marking a troubling trend of tree vandalism in the area.
The trees were removed from their locations in the dead of night on Friday. In a particularly unusual incident, one of the uprooted trees was transported from a local greenspace and set upright in the middle of Highway 28A. Early Saturday morning, a driver spotted the tree, maneuvered it off the road, and placed it in a nearby ditch to prevent potential accidents.
This series of events comes amid ongoing efforts to enhance Gibbons’ green spaces. The town is a recipient of a $2 billion tree grant, which will fund the planting of over 500 new trees this year alone. The grant is part of a broader initiative expected to increase the total number of trees planted in Gibbons to 700 over the past three years.
Local authorities are investigating the tree uprootings and urge anyone with information to come forward.
