Jasper Wildfire Update

The wildfire in Jasper remains out of control, but Parks Canada reports significant progress in safeguarding the community from further damage. Recent rainfall has aided firefighters’ efforts, enhancing safety conditions on the ground.

According to Alberta Wildfire, it is not uncommon for a wildfire of this magnitude to take months or even up to a year to be fully extinguished.

As of Tuesday, workers in a limited number of critical retail services have been allowed to enter the town. However, there is still no timeline for when residents will be able to return to Jasper.

On Monday, Premier Danielle Smith announced that she has requested the federal government to consider additional funding from the $4 billion Housing Accelerator Fund to assist Jasper with land planning and recovery efforts.

In the meantime, bus tours have commenced for residents who lost their homes in the fires, providing them an opportunity to view the impact and begin the process of recovery.
