Man charged after bringing an axe to Boyle RCMP detatchment

On Tuesday morning, Boyle RCMP responded to a potentially dangerous situation when a local man entered their detachment armed with an axe, reportedly with the intent to harm the officers.

Sgt. Dennis Properzi, the detachment’s commander, stated that the RCMP were alerted shortly after 10 a.m. One officer initially approached the man on the street, and three additional officers soon joined. The four officers worked together to ensure the situation was resolved safely and without injury.

The individual, who was arrested near the detachment, complied with orders to drop the axe but did not follow subsequent commands, according to Sgt. Properzi. The man, identified as Damon Leroy Omlechuck, was reported to have some mental health issues.

Omlechuck faces seven criminal charges, including three counts of uttering threats, and single counts of resisting arrest, possession of a weapon dangerous to the public, vandalism, and mischief.
